November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month! Seniors make the best pets: They’re usually already trained and definitely calmer than a puppy or kitten. Studies have shown that elderly people live longer and healthier lives when paired with an elderly pet, so spread the word and help these amazing animals finally find their forever homes!
Available for foster or adoption through For Our Friends Animal Rescue
**Senior Alert** Riley is absolutely gorgeous! This 8 year old male Min Pin is described as very sweet and affectionate, loves going for walks and is a great lap dog. Riley is visually impaired so he needs a decent home to thrive.
**Senior Alert** Artie is a senior gentleman somewhere in the ballpark aged 10+. Nobody’s really sure how a beautiful creature like this ends up in a shelter, but he knew. Artie is now being cared for by For Our Friends Animal Rescue and is waiting to start the next chapter in his life. If you or someone you know can open your heart and home to them, please reach out [email protected] today!
Available for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter
**Special Request** Toto is a 1 year old domestic shorthair mix who arrived at the shelter very sickly, emaciated and weak, but his determination and fighting spirit helped him prevail. Toto is playful, sweet and a great lover of kisses and cuddles. He has a skin allergy that may flare up from time to time. He will need a special home willing to take him to the vet and put him on steroid injections and possibly drops to help manage this chronic but not life threatening issue. Toto would do well in a household with children or other cats to play with.
If you are interested in adopting or fostering Toto or any of the cute cats and kittens currently at the shelter, please call 631-360-7575 for more information!
Available for adoption from the North Shore Animal League America
**Double Adoption** Rum Tum Tugger is not a very curious cat. In fact, this shy senior is content to snuggle up to his favorite sister, Catherine the Great. These bonded 10 year old tabbies lost their previous home and owner last year. They’ve spent their entire lives exchanging cuddles, and Animal League America intends for them to spend the rest of their lives side by side, adored by their newest hero. Catherine has relied heavily on Rum Tum for support as they slowly adjust to life away from the only home they knew. Loyal to the last detail, Rum Tum rarely leaves Catherine’s side. These wonderful seniors would love a peaceful, predictable home with no children and adults experienced in caring for tender souls. If you feel you have a heart for a sweet couple of deserving seniors, please visit Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Center and ask a team member to meet Rum Tum Tugger and his beloved Catherine the Great!
**Double Adoption and Senior Alert** Tutelo and Cayuga have found great comfort in each other’s company throughout their lives. Despite their rocky start, these 11-year-old brothers have settled into the next chapter of their lives in the safety of Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center. Brave Cayuga was a great mentor to his shy brother who now seeks the attention of trusted visitors and attends fun wand toy parties with his friends. A patient, experienced adult will see the value of going slowly to build confidence. Your predictable home (with children over 12) will be worth the wait. Who can resist her dreamy eyes? They will win your heart from the moment you reassure them they are safe.
**Senior Alert** Isabel (Adoption #H194441) needed help to restore her trust in people. Animal League America became aware of their desperate need for safety when neighbors reported them abandoned in their home. Her team came to her rescue, and after giving her a clean bill of health and a quiet space to breathe, she is left to the kindness of strangers. This stunning 12 year old has never lived with other cats and would love to be the only pet in a quiet home with understanding children over 12 and adults who have previously shown patience with shy cats. New situations scare Isabel, but she sees how gentle and loving her caregivers are, which gives her something she hasn’t had in a long time: safety and hope. If you want to offer Isabel a soft place to land after a rough patch in her life, you could be the hero she’s been waiting for.
**Double Adoption and Senior Alert** Losing their home has been a major obstacle for 13-year-old Pearl (Adoption #SPC314) and her 7-year-old daughter Piper (Adoption #SPC315). With their trusted friends at Animal League America by their side, these timid ladies have found solace in the quiet room they share at Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center. After taking their time to regroup, these devoted ladies have ventured out of hiding to give a warm welcome to visitors to their room. Both are quite motivated to share treats with new friends! While Piper might greet you at the door, Pearl wants you to get comfortable so she can take your lap. Vets have put together a great plan for Pearl’s Hyperthyroidism which is covered by our animal health centers at cost. They are looking for someone who will love them the way they have always been loved. A quiet, seasoned adult home will fill them up with the love they miss, and in return they will thank you with gratitude for putting their lives back on the path to happiness.
**Senior Alert** Kella (Adoption #BF3977) needed peace and quiet when she was first brought into the care of Animal League America after an agonizing self-care outdoors. This stunning 8 year old lady is committed to living indoors and they will ensure that the happy family that adopts her can give her more peace and love than she has ever had. While she can still be cautious about connecting with people, she has responded so well to the predictable patterns of her shelter day. A family of experienced adults and children over the age of 12 can give her more of the rest she craves and will be rewarded with abundant gratitude.
**Senior Alert** A medical crisis recently turned the life of 10-year-old Max (adoption #VR0967) upside down when his lifelong owner became too ill to attend to his special needs. Time spent with Animal League America vets has put Max on the path to wellness, and with a plan, he’s ready for the golden retirement he deserves. This sweet senior has never lived with other pets and would love to be the only pet in his home. Although losing his first home was a difficult challenge, he overcomes this obstacle and is happy to make new friends with the people who care for him. You might find him rolling around in piles of catnip or busily chasing wand toys, but he always stops to give his visitors a friendly pet and welcome them to his room.
If you are interested in adopting one of these fabulous cats, send an email [email protected] and/or visit the Animal League America campus in Port Washington.
