Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner are the proud parents of two adorable daughters.
The Jonas Brothers singer and actress, who tied the knot in 2019, are notoriously private when it comes to their children’s lives. They welcomed their first daughter, Willa, in 2020, followed by their little sister in 2022. The two have never shared photos of any of their daughters on their social media pages or any other medium, and they are careful to protect their girls keep out of public view.
In conversation with ell UK, Turner has been honest about how difficult it can be for her to deal with fame and how she and Jonas are trying to make their family life as normal as possible. “I’m very protective of the life we’ve built,” she said. “Every time Joe and I walk the red carpet together, we make sure it’s for the right reason and makes sense for our careers. You never want to market yourself as a celebrity couple. That’s not so cool.”
“And my daughter never asked for it,” she continued. “I know what it can do for your sanity to be in this industry and be photographed every day and have the comments. I don’t want her to deal with it unless she’s like, ‘That’s what I want to do. ‘ We’re pretty strict about it. We’ll encourage her to do whatever she wants, but I don’t think we would let her do anything professionally until she’s 18. I am also quite convinced that my daughter will not become a child of nepotism.
While they haven’t said much about their kids, Jonas and Turner did share some sweet tidbits about raising their little girls. From their “amazing” home life with Willa to welcoming their second daughter, here’s everything Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have said about their daughters.
Jonas and Turner welcomed their first daughter, Willa, at a hospital in Los Angeles, California on July 22, 2020.
“The couple are already obsessed and can’t stop excited about their new addition,” a source told Entertainment Tonight at the time. “The couple are taking their time to enjoy this special moment and have only shared the news and updates with family and friends.”
While the couple didn’t share any details about Willa’s birth or early days at home, Turner later in November posted a photo to Instagram that appeared to show a new tattoo dedicated to her daughter: a small “W” on her wrist beneath the letter “J.”
To celebrate her first UK Mother’s Day as a mother in March 2021, Turner wrote about her gratitude for her daughter on her Instagram Story.
“I am so grateful to the two loves of my life for making me a mother. @JoeJonas and my beautiful little girl,” she shared. “It’s my favorite job I’ve ever had.”
When Willa was 9 months old, Jonas shared an update on his new role as a father during an appearance on CBS This morning.
When asked about the extra time he’s gotten to spend with Turner and Willa during the pandemic, Jonas said it’s been “amazing.”
“It was a forced time at home – I’m always on the go, I’m always moving and traveling and touring. Being in one place for a solid time and having my feet on the ground and being with my family, my immediate family, is time that I don’t think I’m going to come back from,” the musician shared. “I’m so thankful and thankful.”
The proud dad also called Willa “gorgeous” and spoke about the importance of naps, joking: “Naps are beautiful. all around.”
Turner has also said that being Willa’s mother made her a better actress. During a conversation on The Wrap’s Unpacked podcast, the game of Thrones Star said that becoming a mother has given her a “different perspective” on her roles and made her a “much more emotional person”.
“The empathy is increased; the feelings for the family are just overflowing,” she said. “It made me a better actor because I became a mom.”
When Jonas and Turner found out they were pregnant again, Turner shared ell UK that a then 21-month-old Willa wasn’t exactly aware that she was going to be a big sister soon.
“I point to my stomach and say, ‘What’s in there?’ and she’ll go, ‘baby.’ But then she’s pointing at her own belly and she’s like, “Baby,” and then she’s pointing at her dad’s belly and she’s like, “Baby.” Well, I think she just thinks a belly is a baby, and that’s that name for it,” she explained.
“She wants Mummy all the time — she claims her territory,” Turner added.
During her May 2022 interview with Elle UKTurner confirmed she is expecting a second child with Jonas. “That’s what life is about for me — raising the next generation,” she said. “The greatest thing in life is to see my daughter getting stronger and stronger. We are very excited to expand the family. It’s the best blessing ever.”
Echoing the same sentiments, Jonas told PEOPLE, “You really don’t know what to expect. I think [I’m] maybe a little less nervous [this time], but I’m just as excited. It’s such an amazing part of life.”
“It’s been great being a dad and learning more about myself and what that’s like every day,” he continued. “[We’re] living in a new city and it’s a very exciting time. I’m really looking forward to the future in all things.”
Turner gave birth to her second child on July 14, 2022, officials confirmed to PEOPLE. “Joe and Sophie are delighted to announce the arrival of their baby girl,” they said.
A day later, Jonas posted a sweet tribute video to Turner on social media, which included clips from the beginning of their romance, snaps from their wedding day, and a photo of Turner’s baby bump.
The couple has yet to name their second child or share photos of the newborn, although Turner shared a never-before-seen snap of her baby bump in August.
“Full baby,” she captioned the photo.
That same month, Jonas spoke to PEOPLE about balancing his music career while being a father to a newborn baby.
“It’s an adjustment period,” he said, to keep everything on track. “Just something I’m learning as I go, I think I can work a little bit harder now to take some time off. I’m still trying to figure it out. Some weeks are a bit more challenging than others but it makes it that much easier when you enjoy your performance… I wake up every day just amazed to be able to make music or act and create different projects and have a beautiful family , so it feels like a dream come true.”
Jonas also spoke about his and Turner’s decision to move to Miami with their family. “We came to visit and just loved it. I saw a whole different side of Miami that I’ve never experienced – really quiet areas and the food is amazing. I feel like it’s the best kept secret,” he explained.
Despite the singer’s love of the city, it may not be her family’s permanent home, according to Turner. That Stairs actress tells ell UK that she is interested in returning to her native England and raising her daughters there.
“I miss England so much. The people, the attitude, everything,” she said. “I’m slowly retiring my husband. I really love living in America, but for my mental health, I need to be with my friends and family.”
Turner continued, “And for my daughter too — I would love for her to have the education and school life that I’ve been so fortunate to have.”
