See Boston in a whole new light on the City Walking Trail

With more than 48 square miles of land divided into 24 official neighborhoods, even longtime Boston residents can find a new area to explore if they search hard enough. Author and avid outdoor enthusiast Miles Howard has put a lot of leg work into his new City Walking Trail, a 25-mile trail that takes urban walkers from the Neponset River to Bunker Hill and through immersive parks, urban wilderness, community gardens and greenways the way. The trail is divided into four sections and has easy MBTA access at several points, if the idea of hiking 25 miles in one day sounds (understandably) daunting. Instead, consider driving to an area you’ve never been before, hiking a few miles, and then taking the T back to your car. Detailed descriptions of the trail and maps for each section can be found on the City Trail website. – Kevin Slane

Let Jenny Slate warm your heart in “Marcel the Shell With Shoes On”

Are you ready to be emotionally lifted and devastated by a 1 inch talking shell over the course of 90 minutes? That’s the promise of Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, a heartwarming indie oddity from Milton native Jenny Slate and her ex-husband Dean Fleischer-Camp, now playing in select area theaters. Based on the soft-spoken, wide-eyed character the duo have created for a number of short films over the past decade, the “Marcel” film is a mockumentary that follows a recently divorced filmmaker named Dean (Camp) Marcel (Slate) discovered and filmed. , a shell with a fluffy stuffed animal and a wondrous outlook on life. When Camp’s videos go viral, Marcel’s life is turned upside down as he realizes how big the world really is. This may all sound a bit odd, but a 100 percent freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes should be the only reassurance you need that “Marcel” is worth a watch. – Kevin Slane
